File size

Postby Dan Druff » 05 Sep 2008, 22:14

Anyone working on large projects especially from a central file would ‘or will do soon’ encounter file size issue and not being able to save.

One way to help overcome this I have found is to use the compact file option when saving but it will increase saving time.

Another option is to recreate your local file from the central regularly as this has reduced it by up to a third.

Anyone else can confirm/ comment on this please do.

These are all useful ways to help the bloat. Another is to save the central file as a different name (make sure EVERYONE is out of the file before doing this) and then save it back again to it's original name.
eg:
1. Open up the central file (make sure EVERYONE is out of the file before doing this)
2. Save this file as Compact.rvt
3. Delete the orginal file and assoicated back-up folder
4. Save the file again as the same original name (from step 1.)
5. Recreate fresh local files.

... and here's an odd one. If you deliberately crash the file, it creates a 'project name (recovery).rvt' copy of the file for you to continue with. This file is generally 30% smaller or more...
